Hi! We are the Midnight Sun Café mobile kitchen and self-sufficiency workshop. We travel and feed homeless travelling kids and teach primitive living skills and wild food foraging to the homeless & low income for free. We are a strong believer in the old saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time”. We pull into a town and find the kids and feed them, get to know them and share our skills in workshops (we are basically a mobile version of projects like Rewild Portland; http://www.rewildportland.com This also is a great project and I know Urban Scout would welcome donations as well).

The old RV could not handle the stress of a large crew and heavy travels and finally had a electrical (mental) break down. Gave it to a young couple for free and he got it running again. We are trying to get a larger better equipped used RV to get back out on the road doing what we love. Feeding hungry kids and teaching them life affirming Rewilding skills. We have been looking at used RVs that would meet our needs in the range of $4,000 to $6,000 (depending on what is available when we meet our financial goal). Besides feeding in towns and cities from the RV, we also set up a free outdoor kitchen/workshop at Gatherings and will set up as a disaster relief kitchen as well when needed. Our goal is to raise around $6,000 for a RV and much needed kitchen gear. Below is the list of things the $6,000 would be used for.

RV title, tags & insurance

Small utility trailer (if we can find one cheap enough for kitchen and workshop gear)

Kitchen gear (cooking grates, industrial pots, pans, utensils, 5gallon buckets, water buffalos, pvc water lines, water filters, dollies/supply wagon, tarps, rope, shovel, axe, etc…)

Any start up maintenance the RV may need (like making sure there are no leaks in the roof. One of the biggest issues in our last RV).

Most of us our musicians or street performers, which is how we support ourselves and the, “on road expenses like fuel, oil, RV maintenances etc…”. We gather food by dumpster diving, wild food foraging, trading work on organic farms, and accept food donations from different groups and folks. We will have our Kitchen Blog up soon so folks can follow us on our journey. As of now there are 5 full time volunteers with other members of the kitchen who jump on and off along the way. :-)
